I have the same first and last names as a former Clemson University and European professional basketball player, but I am not a basketball star.  I was born on the same day (May 8, 1975) as Enrique Iglesias, but I am not a famous singer.  I have been ganged, fired upon, and once had a knife launched at me, but I am no rapper.  I was raised in the ‘hood’ and enjoyed listening to Tupac Shakur, but I am not a thug.  I have vacationed in Paris, the Dominican Republic, Jamaica and Mexico, but I am not rich. 

 My name is Thomas Wideman and I hold a Bachelor of Science degree in Chemical Engineering from the University of South Carolina and a Master of Business Administration in Finance from Georgia State University.  I am also an investor, realtor, writer, entrepreneur and father of two boys.  But don’t let my current success mislead you into thinking that I was born with a silver spoon in my mouth.  In fact, I still have the splinters in my tongue from the old wooden one that I grew up on.  To learn more about me, read the entire poem titled “Father, Where Are You Taking Me?”  Next year, I plan to release my book and you do not want to miss it.  For more information, please click here.

 My goals are to show you that you do not have to be a famous rapper or professional athlete to be successful and to provide you with the inspiration to get past those one or two obstacles that are holding you back.  Every week, I meet or hear about people who escaped poverty and have become successful lawyers, doctors, financiers, engineers, entrepreneurs, barbers, mechanics, nurses, teachers, etc.   It is amazing how my poems relate to events in their lives. I truly believe that God has blessed me with the experiences that have made me into a stronger person, along with the ability to express them in a way to connect with other people.
